Pros

Cafeteria, co workers, benefits, great parties, awesome work life balance

Cons

Management, outdated systems, training, they fail to train you properly and then jump to reprimand you when you do something wrong. Recognition is not common. You are not creating any money for the company working in the call center, so there is little to no patience for mistakes.

Pros

Good people in the main. Training pretty good. Office environments Ok . Products fundamentally very good with reasonably good underwriting .

Cons

I worked in sales , management were truly shocking mostly being failed ex sales people with no people skills , this was certainly true of the midlands , not sure about other regions. Commercial management were uncommunicative , made knee -jerk reaction decisions and sometimes would make announcements to the whole company then retract them .The weekly reports were in 3 different formats to three different people, but all showing the same info . You needed at least one day a week just to complete management info. When I worked there my nearest territory was 2 hours away , with the furthest being 5 hours away , so driving at least 5,000 miles a month. I can honestly say it was the most disorganized company I have ever worked for. Although I don't regret working there it made me very appreciative of what I do now. Very high turnover of staff in the sales roles which says it all. Salary's are not particularly good and are below market average. Commission ok but on a sliding scale so hits you hard if you have a bad month.

Views of an expat working in the Munich HQ

Pros

The scope of the group is very broad and there are very bright, conceptually driven strong colleagues to work with in Munich and very practical, commercial people to work with in the various operating companies around the world. Connecting the two takes energy, however! Having said that, the strength of the group is in its operating entities (OE's in Allianz speak) and there is enough autonomy for them to do the right thing.

Cons

The overlapping responsibilities in Munich are a recipe for paralysis, especially when allied to the toxic gossip culture reinforced by 3-5 day a week 1-1 scheduled lunch meetings and a very very German hierarchical style. Another issue is that people are seldom fired but can get shoved from project to project - many seem to view it as a comfortable landing point and are happy to wait their time out. This contributes to a civil service culture that is change averse. It also means that many of the people are massively over-qualified for what they are actually doing day to day - more reasons for creating mischief and the "sweet smell of unnecessary work".
