Pros

Smart people, good managers, very good customer focus which drives all business decisions and helps to innovate. Many good development tools which remove burden. However, since Amazon is big, this hugely varies between different departments and teams so be careful where you go.

Cons

Like in any big company, most technologies and tools are internal and make the experience hardly applicable anywhere else. Cheap and sluggish developer workstations (forget SSDs). Strict policies around personal projects even remotely competitive to Amazon business(es).

Pros

A place where builder can build. Has unique opportunity to work on massive scale of system. High standard through out daily tasks. Good to have on your CV

Cons

Typical large org where things are hard or slowly done due to political process. Hard to get promoted unless you work days and nights to sacrifice your personal life. Good starting compensation however get harder and harder to adjust in once you joined.
