Pros

Some of the most fun and brightest people I've ever worked with work at Amazon Good location in downtown Seattle, as opposed to a suburban campus Fairly good pay (make sure you negotiate for it)

Cons

Management in AWS is disorganized, lacks cohesion with its plans and does not communicate to staff effectively. Managers have a tendency to micromanage and treat staff as mere dogs bodies rather than to act as people managers, lead their teams, and let their staff do their jobs. No perks. Extremely long hours for many, particularly some SDEs, but also infrastructure people.

Pros

Amazon looks good on a resume and it will get you a better job, when you are finally done with this place.

Cons

If you read about horrible conditions at Amazon warehouses, know that their white collar employees are treated only marginally better. It is true that you would not have to work in a 105F degree environment with no A/C, however you would be expected to work 70+ hours a week, including weekends. If you don't, and say you only work 50+ hours, your manager won't tell you much, however when time comes for your performance review you will be unpleasantly surprised. It does not matter if you achieve all your goals, your manager will find a way to give you a bad review and make your life miserable to force you out of the company. If your manager is a half decent person and refuses to exploit his people, he in turn will be be forced out to be replaced by a slave driver.
