Pros
The Red Cross mission attracts passionate individuals. The best part of the Red Cross experience is the staff you will have the privilege to work alongside. Depending upon the department, the work-life balance is typically quite reasonable.
Cons
The organization is extremely top-heavy. Funds have been frequently mismanaged over the years (pricey consultants, ample travel for executives), which means the organization is in perpetual reorganization/cost-cutting mode. The staff at the bottom are penalized, while everything is business as usual for the dinosaur executive layer.
