Pros

Mission is wonderful. Great benefits and volunteers are awesome!

Cons

Favoritism and ageism. If you are not a manager you have no support or crediblity. No HR to speak of. No loyalty for years of service. Yearly turn overs and staff reductions in every department.

Pros

The American Red Cross does good work and helps people in need. Depending on which chapter you're talking about, people may like their job perfectly well.

Cons

While the ARC has always used volunteers (of which I am one; that's not an option in "Employment Status"), management has decided that since there are many hardworking and skillfull volunteers (which is true), they would reduce paid staff in favor of volunteers stepping in, and thereby strengthen a difficult budget. This may be great in theory, but with reduced staff the remaining staff have a greater load and can no longer take care of things as quickly or as well as they used to. Morale has suffered.
