Pros

Hours are flexible and the people you work with are pretty friendly and helpful. There was coffee as well, which is always a plus.

Cons

Several, but first and foremost is the awful pay (even for a nonprofit) for a position that requires a college level education. Simply put: there is no way that someone can afford living in an area like DC for $33K a year without supplementing income with a second or third part time job (which is basically what every lab tech had to do). Second: The lab work is incredibly mundane and isn't even real science, you will likely get burned out after 4 months and start looking for new jobs. Third: Conditions in the lab are a complete mess and lack basic organization. You will understand immediately why this company is under a consent decree by the FDA. Finally, the lack of advancement in career. Regardless of how well you do your job, you probably wont be getting a promotion unless you work for x amount of years, which is already terrible considering how low the salaries are.

Pros

The name of the company was good enough to to get me a better job! Was very happy to part ways with this company .

Cons

I was at this company for 3 years and I would like to be the first to tell you, they are all about donations and not taking no for a answer . You will be calling donor on a Sunday morning ,Christmas Eve, Easter and other days they feel is expectable. You have to learn to rebuttal and and come up with special way to trick the donor into donating a free pint of blood. If the donor is sick or cancel the appointment it makes your show rate go down and hurts your numbers . This job is very stressful for $10. The system make a lot of mistakes in calling the same donors that have already donated. The call system needs to be updated .The donor also make this job especially hard. Management wants you chain to a desk so they will bonus off the teams hard work. You won't feel appreciated by this company at all . They also coach you on your calls that are being recorded and make sure that you use every opportunity to get a blood donation . If your new they train you for a week then they throw you onto the call center floor. There is no consistency with this company . There is so much more I could say negatively about American Red Cross but I will leave it for other to experience and and write about . Good Luck!
