Held regular one-on-one meetings with manager. After a year of meetings with no indication that my performance was inadequate, I had a terrible performance review about things I had no idea that I was doing or had done in the past. That is because no one tells you if there is something wrong. They just let it go until it is too late to fix anything. Then they fire you.
