Pros

Industry average pay or less Good corporate level marketing, if that matters to you Will be publicly listed in a few years, which should wipe out at least some of the dead wood. If you are willing to wait that long.

Cons

Run by management consultants who have never done any technical work in their lives. Underneath the hype and, lets be honest, only semi-glossy exterior, this is as old school an engineering firm as you will find anywhere that can be accessed without a time machine. Aurecon is a great example of how employee ownership can fail - The owners are an increasingly isolated bunch of old men whose only idea to grow and future-proof their company is to charge top dollar for under-resourced skeleton teams, who they think will work their butts off for no rewards and no hope of ever joining the owners club. And who all balk at the idea of doing so if they make it that far, which the good ones don’t...

Bully culture

Pros

Staff are free to pursue their own preferences Negotiate a good starting salary and get new job offers every couple of years. Aurecon will make a counter offer: no-one wants to work there.

Cons

Bully culture at all levels. Be prepared to leave if you are not going to join the evangelists. Lots of nice talk and ideas but there is no very little action on the ground. Aurecon lurches between boom and bust working on key projects only and is unable to compete on everyday engineering work. There is no formal training, you will need to force yourself onto courses and work to self-train. Managers are not intersted in spending time training junior staff.
