My comments are about BlackRock Solutions - - Fast growing business - Opportunities in a variety of business areas and geographical locations - Junior folks (analysts and associates) can gain experience working with experienced and smart folks in different business areas - Meritocracy - Technology oriented business Overall comments - - Senior management very focused in making BLK HR and IT policies employee friendly - Latest technology (both hardware and software) among peers

Cons

- Long hours - Limited exposure to different business areas if stationed in a regional office - Pay is sub-par by industry standards

Pros

Neurotic, workaholic New York culture hasn't entirely rubbed off on West Coast offices. You can still find work-life balance in SF and Seattle offices. And... I think we're just as, if not more, effective at our jobs.

Cons

If you want to climb the corporate ladder, it's overall better to do so in the New York office.

BRS: A great place to learn; but long hours, lots tech/systems, and by no means a pathway into portfolio management

Smart people, very detail oriented, lots of responsibility for recent grads and young professionals. Very competitive comp.

Cons

If you're a person with investment banking or pure asset management aspirations, BRS will not be the most direct route for you. The approach to learning about the market/industry is akin to learning a language one word at a time... Very bottom up, devil's in the details etc.
