Pros

Depending on the dept, they give healthy bonus but the salary is not competitive and raises are minimal. Good, recognizable, reputable company to put on your resume. They do hire best of breed talent and you will work with smart people but do not expect a life outside of work. Their motto, "One BlackRock" is becoming like the big financial corporations out there with lots of red tape to get things done. They are loosing sight on how they started off.

Cons

There are are clicks and you need to be in the senior management click to get recognized and promoted. If you're a worker bee and quiet, you will be looked over and will be given work no one wants to do. They promote work/life balance but expect you to do the work of 3 people so I question the validity of that statement.

Pros

- Exposure to a large financial institution and all of the products and clients that come with it. - One of the best risk management system in the financial markets today. - Working for a truly global institution. - Excellent compensation packages for all levels employees. - Responsibility from the first day of employment. - Larry Fink is the most strategically aggressive CEO on Wall Street today.

Cons

- Could be compared to working at the US Government with how much red tape is strung around the place now. When I started ingenuity was valued and encouraged. - Career progression does not exist. No exit opportunities. - Work / life balance is a joke. - When the individuals that created BlackRock start to retire I wonder what will be done to continue the success. After the MLIM acquisition there were so many zombies from Merrill that it ended up driving the effective managers to retirement or other companies.
