Pros

Great learning opportunities, decent compensation, great people. I've never had a problem moving into different positions. If you are smart and ambitious you can move ahead quickly.

Cons

Benefits are not great. There is no pension. If you get a bad manager your opportunities are very limited. The type of experience you have at CGI will depend highly on your manager. Getting into the right organization is very important as movement between SI (systems integration - programmers, architects, etc.) and OMS (operations management - support staff, systems adminstrators, etc.) is rare and difficult. I recommend SI.

Pros

CGI Group (CGI) acquired American Management Systems, Inc. (AMS) in May 2004. For approximately 2 years, the United States division was known as CGI-AMS (as a way to continue the brand loyalty of AMS clients). Right before AMS was acquired (at the time, CGI tried to sell it to AMS employees as a "merger" - no one bought that), the morale at AMS was poor. For awhile after the acquisition, the morale among former AMS employees went down. This is pretty standard. Over the years, there has been some improvement in making the former AMS employees feel as if they belong to the company, but for the most part, people still think of themselves as "AMSers". This doesn't seem to get in the way of everyone working together to get the job done.

Cons

As with most firms, different people have different experiences. I wouldn't disuade anyone from applying to CGI.

Pros

CGI seems to have it going on when it comes to technology -- far better than DoD (previous employer). While i hate the fact that they make some of us move to certain areas, it is good that some people can stay where they are and work remotely. CGI does provide us with some great training -- that is actually beneficial -- you will never be bored. I even have seen how my former employers could do things better if they would do things like CGI. CGI sees the benefit of things like LiveMeeting, InfoPath, and Messenger. I like the fact that CGI does Profit sharing as well (even though i currently don't take part).

Cons

You either are REALLY busy or have nothing to do -- there never seems to be happy medium. A lot of people sit on the bench before being assigned to a project. That means that they have nothing to do. If you have nothing to do, you still have to sit there for 8 hours. Another thing is that for some projects, you have down time of not hours or days but MONTHS. And the worst thing is that before we get comp time, we have to go over by 15 hours. Essentially we are giving CGI 15 hours of our time every pay period. That is awful. I could understand five or six -- but 15?
