Pros

Financially stable with an attractive stock purchase plan. Global footprint and one of the larger IT Services firms.

Cons

I have witnessed a slow decline, particularly in the U.S. At one time, the medical benefits were very strong and coupled with a great work-life balance driven by a "work from home" policy, and attractive stock purchase plan. This is no longer the case. Today, the benefits are not very attractive, as the enormously high-deductible health plan creates the feeling of almost having no health insurance at all. Combine this with a weak 401k match and now a mandate to move all U.S. job functions into an office, the company is average and probably below average, in my opinion. Extremely process driven to the point where many functions spend more time on "process" than actually performing real work. Sometimes, I have witnessed colleagues going through the motions of a process, just for the sake of checking a box that really doesn't matter, while the real work gets neglected. A limited career path in some cases (depending on function) unless you live in Virginia.

Isolated Through Training in Atlanta Location Then Fired

Pros

Learned a lot through training Heard there was a sense of camaraderie between consultants at other locations Very well-organized systems Very fair compensation

Cons

Felt incredibly isolated on the day-to-day, having days go by without any interaction outside of Skyping people in other locations. I had no idea who was physically there and who wasn't Location did not have a workstation prepared for me for the first few days, causing a late start to training. Got fired after training despite showing promise and exhibiting problems visible in other candidates (although perhaps that might be just me since apparently this is not a common occurrence)

Pros

CGI is a global operation. Whilst the management frameworks are driven from Canada; the responsibility for bringing it all to life is devolved across the world, along the lines of geography and/or industry. That entrusts significant responsibility to the constituent local Business Units, to provide compelling opportunities for their teams, and to prosper with their clients. Contrary to some of these reviews, I have never found Canada having any desire to meddle at the coal face, unless things were going awry (which is a good thing). CGI isn't for everyone. The whole ethos of the firm is to share an entrepreneurial sprit with your colleagues, help your clients to succeed, and to do so profitably, so that everyone prospers along the way. They're increasingly looking for all rounders who get business, technology, and the 'business of technology/IT services'. When the business model all comes together, you don't need any North American positivity; its self evident in what and how you delivered. A lot of classic brand name IT firms are tanking at the moment; whilst some of the new Silicon Valley upstarts face all sorts of harassment and discrimination charges (age, gender etc.). CGI are good employer.

Cons

The UK is in a period of transition. Many units have embraced the Canadian approach to business, with great results. Others are making slower progress, holding out until forced to do so. Step-by-step, change is inevitable. If you prefer an employee/employer (worker/master) relationship, you probably aren't going to enjoy CGI. Expectation, reward, and self development, is the responsibility of everyone; keeping the business relevant and successful. Once in a Business Unit, if you excel, then its very unlikely that you'll be encouraged to seek opportunities in another one. That is a bit unsettling, but suggest you read the classic Acres of Diamonds, and you'll feel much better!
