Pros
Got to work on new tech I guess.
Cons
During my (short) time here I was treated very badly: Patronisation: I have been repeatedly patronised by certain members of my team, regarding me as if I am a graduate, when fact I have nearly a decade of experience, dismissing my input arbitrarily, causing me considerable stress. False allegations: I have been repeatedly accused falsely of aggression in meetings. I am Scottish, of west coast origin, and this means I am direct, assertive, and respectful of others time, but this has been taken as aggressive, when I was simply being collaborative. This has caused considerable distress, as I am sure you can understand. Vague feedback: when informed of the previous point, it was not stated what was said or what was expected, only that “improvement” was expected. Hostility: I was later informed that I had been called “opinionated” after my initial interview by one of the same team members who called me aggressive. Opinionated means stubbornly holding opinions in the face of opposing evidence, so there is no basis in fact to support this personal slur. Name calling is unprofessional. Scapegoating: I was informed that I had left a ticket in a poor state, compared to how I had allegedly described it. Rather than accept that it could have been a miscommunication, I was accused of lying, again, with no proof. Clear bias by management: when I was spoken to about the aforementioned points, I was told clearly that the word of my accuser, would be taken over my own, due to tenure. This is unethical behaviour. Whatever happened to “innocent until proven guilty” Accusations of being uncommunicative: I was accused of being uncommunicative by management, when I had simply decided to “keep my head down” to avoid further accusations of aggression. Expectations of dishonesty from manager: I was coached on what to say to the client during an external stand up. Additionally, management enforced closing in flight tickets and carrying forward work in new tickets to show “tickets closed”, which is gaming the system, and made me feel very uncomfortable. Unfair criticism: ref the previous point. I had left a ticket open at the end of the sprint, and had spoken out in teams that I was unable to close the ticket, due to an unexplained work flow on jira. I was met with hostility, and aggression the following Monday, on teams, from management, despite asking for help on the previous Friday, and had received no response. My email explaining this was ignored. I was then berated in front of the team for the issue I had just explained via email. Management ignoring important emails: I had emailed managing regarding the fact that I had asked for help on teams, and that my gp, had signed me off due to workplace related stress and anxiety (due to the previous reasons I have alluded to), both these communications were ignored. This started DAY ONE, and continued until the stress and anxiety made me so sick that my gp had to sign me off for a month, during which time I attended jury duty. HR then denied my request to be paid for this period, or to be furnished with a loss of earnings certificate, as I was on "unpaid, long term sickness" - oh yeah, they also do not pay for sickness. All this happened during my first two months in the job. It is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most hostile work environment I have ever encountered, and I have worked on building sites and in call centres.
