Cons
My experience working at capital one was very negative. It’s a very cut throat environment, you’re on your own from day two working here. I learned that you have to be fake at this company, the ones that got accustomed to it and it’s second nature it can work out, otherwise good luck. On the team I was on, all it did was gossip and make fun of the clients it supports on what baffoons they are. I felt bad for the employees that reached out to me regarding them not agreeing with their performance ratings and how unfair they are, and that they are rated not based on performance. All I could do based on guidance is tell them it’s up to the business and client group to determine if they can change their rating-even if it was evident that manager tried to justify the low rating by pulling a cat out of a hat. All in all, the team I was on was a trashy team and I’m actually embarrassed to have worked there. I now have people reach out to me asking what’s it’s like working for Capital One and I refer them to read Glassdoor reviews. It’s pretty sad how many people are worried where they will end up during Performance Management cycle every 6 months. In terms of their stack ranking, during performance cycle 10-12% are required from each team to be below strong (meaning your on the chopping block and will be put on Coaching Plan or a PIP after you receive your low rating). I’ve seen some really good employees placed on below strong and managed out. If you’re a hard worker and don’t brown nose and question lack of professional environment or very confusing policies that don’t make sense-policies are there not for the benefit of employees… then this company will be very difficult for you to navigate and you’ll eventually leave or be managed out through performance. Good luck. Oh, capital one hates when people quit. They feel people should only be let go….. a cult like culture.
