Great pay and benefits, but bad culture

Pros

Great pay and good benefits. Supports a family-oriented culture, sort of..(people regularly leave the office early to beat traffic/pick up kids, but also has a culture of working consistently late or on weekends/vacations.)

Cons

Biggest problems are: 1) Way too many meetings, especially when it's performance management season (2x year) and for senior leaders - making them inaccessible to their teams. 2) Very top-down culture 3) Performance management is twice per year, and brings a host of frustrations with it: - Because there is a forced distribution, and ratings impact bonuses, it creates a ton of stress for everyone as they rush to deliver results before the deadline - Managers have about 30+ hrs in June and 30+ hrs in Oct/Nov of meetings in which they have to calibrate their ratings with others on the team (and the ratings are not shared with associates until Jan at the earliest) The above combination has led to very high levels of burnout on my team, which hasn't changed in a few years according to all associate surveys.

Culture has gotten really bad

Pros

The compensation is pretty good, hard to find comparable outside of FAANG-like companies

Cons

culture around "performance management" is terrible. Review cycles are twice a year, and take a few months each time. The stakes are high because they often enforce a 15% distribution, which means 15% of each title is required to be rated "below strong" which automatically results in a PIP. So basically for like 40% of the year you are worried about your job. Absolutely kills morale Also there are so many internal compliance requirements that there's almost no time left to work on actual feature development

Pros

Lots of learning opportunities for new tools and skills

Cons

The stack ranking at the company is TOXIC. Certain percentage of employees ranked at the bottom will be put into performance improvement program and let go every half year. Too much work and pressure for just an average pay.
