Pros

Nice people Pay is decent but not worth the headache Pays for AWS certs Free O'reilly subscription

Cons

Stack ranking encourages backstabbing between coworkers. Management is forced to play favorites and hire people as PIP fodder to keep the employees they'd like to keep Constant reorgs. You join a team under one manager and a couple months later you have a completely new manager. They will PIP you and later try to constantly rehire you as a contractor for less pay/benefits Lots of on-call makes for poor WLB requiring you to work weekends and late nights. Quarterly failover exercises which are done after hours so I hope you don't like sleeping. Generous severance but due to their incompetence they will miscalculate and once you think you are done with them they will come knocking on your door

Pros

My co workers were nice and I made a lot of friends as a younger employee.

Cons

I would strongly advise against working here. The recruiter and your manager will be very nice to you during interviews, but the actual culture of the company is very bad. Performance management is the biggest issue due to stack ranking. Essentially 15-20% of your team will be Pipped every year, so you are constantly worried about losing your job every cycle. You have to compete with your co-workers to make it seem like you’re doing more than them. Eventually one of your co workers will get fired, which doesn’t feel great. There are better companies to work at. I’ve worked at a few companies before Capital One and I was never worried about performance reviews until I got here. I will be leaving soon for my next role. You also aren’t learning about technology here. This isn’t a tech company. The PM role here is essentially a project manager job and not actual product. You’d be better equipped to start your career elsewhere.

Pros

some teams are not toxic

Cons

Most toxic workplace I ever encountered. If you're hankerin' for some rough stuff, maybe give 'em a try. - execs who gaslight you - so-called leaders who dismiss your proposals with specious reasons, only to later adopt them as their own, after some sycophantic lackey has parroted them back to them like a trained parrot. - leaders who, with a self-righteous grin, boast of their messaging and calls in the late night, as if such actions were a mark of their devotion and dedication - Leaders who are ignorant of what makes money in the business, yet still demand that change be summoned at the behest of their will, like a sorcerer conjuring a tempest from thin air, and all the while, the internal customers, mere pawns in this game of whimsy, are compelled to bend business requirements to their desires, despite the futility of such efforts. - leaders who behave rather like the proverbial ostrich, deliberately neglecting to have ethical guardrails and risk-related metrics until they are confronted with the prospect of an audit. At which point, they become as eager as mustard to prioritize these very same metrics, like a hen pecking at a nest egg. - Rigid adherence to priorities that descend from the heavens and disregard for the customer - Executives who create conflict between different teams that they manage and are not even aware that they are doing so - Executives who unknowingly sow discord among the very teams they purport to lead. Blinded by their own myopic ambitions, they are like unwitting puppeteers, manipulating the strings of power and influence without any conscious awareness of the chaos they create. Like a ship adrift in a stormy sea, their organizations are tossed about by the conflicting interests and petty squabbles that erupt among their teams.
