Pros

Breath of products, lots to learn about how technology solutions can be implemented. Chamber is a very charismatic leader that always looks at possibilities; he as definitely a glass half-full exec. Also because there are many different functions, there are more opportunities to try different roles. Health and medical benefits are still quite good(unfortunately employees are asked to shoulder more of the financial burden). The new health center and child care center is STATE of the ART.

Cons

Even though we have a great CEO, that charisma does not flow down to most of the executive team. It is a BIG & bureaucratic company now. I was here during the late 1990s boom and a LOT has changed. There's a lot of mid-managers that just suck the life out of you because they don't care about leading, rather they care about managing their own next promotion. Lots of "fringe" benefits that were part of Cisco are slowly being taken away (i.e., free sodas, company paid broadband, etc). Those were nice while they lasted.

Pros

Benefits and Salary are very good. Flexibility in hours and range of products. Organizations vary considerably as to work environment. Best President a company could have--extraordinary and inspiring leader.

Cons

No growth opportunities either laterally or providing growth experience after a certain point. Cisco likes to keep qualified people doing exactly the same thing so strong performers get bored and demotivated after so many years. Reorgs are only executed at the top level, resulting in people, often managers doing the same thing, or confusion about responsibilities. .

Pros

Good for anyone who lives networking, C, Java, and web applications. Pays well and benefits are ok. Work from home is especially good.

Cons

It is a software engineering job and can be very boring and tedious at times. Java is non-algorithmic coding and the only thing you learn is more Java. You don't really research any novel ideas and implement them, just maintain and update old products with new features. Features developed sometimes makes you think if anyone will use it, even internally. If you are not interested in software, this is not your heaven. Performance is based on how many customer found defects you resolve and quality of your code.
