Pros

There are very good people at Cisco and comitted to customer success. The senior management is smart and understands the business. Benefits are good and overall compensation is on par with the industry. There are different opportunities to learn and grow in different technologies. Cisco is the leader in shaping the way the world communicates. It will be a great company for a long time.

Cons

Promotion opportunities are limited. You either have to have been here over 10+ years or have come in at the level you feel you are working at. Once inside, unless you have a guardian, performance with a combination of ability will not you get you very far.

Pros

Great company, good leadership, very good benefits, people take pride in their work and actually help each other succeed. Little pettiness, very professional organziation and community--coworkers are actually friends. Salaries are very good.

Cons

Very little downsides. High expectations, as this is a very high performing organziation. But that is to be expected. There is nowhere to "hide" at Cisco. If that's what you want or you don't have a good work ethic, look elsewhere.

Pros

Cisco is very much a meritocracy -- where folks are empowered to be innovative and provide leadership, vision, and join in strategic direction of the company. Folks who succeed here need to be self-starters, and Cisco rewards such performers with many opportunities to work in many different functional areas of the company. Cisco's culture is one that has no pre-conceived notions of social status, or placing value on where people went to college or received their MBA degrees. From my experience, the best managers and leaders who get promoted are those who delivered the goods, or stepped up and led others. In my long tenure at Cisco, I've been given many different jobs and roles, and it's that on-going commitment from Cisco to aid me in my learning and career development, that makes this such a great place to work.

Cons

People who "ask for the ball" are given it, and Cisco rewards such performers. Anyone just waiting around, though, for managment to miraculously just promote them, will be waiting around a very long time.
