      Merit-based pay increases (despite what other reviews say, this does happen very often) Good overall compensation Great health care benefits philosophy Cutting-edge of the industry Rewards for exceptional performance Flexible work options

      Not much opportunity for short or medium-term career growth A lot of VIP executives (Vesting in Peace) Too easy to hide and not do much work Too many corporate "priorities"

      Flexibility Great benefits - very generous Many smart people

      Cons

      Cisco is it's own worst enemy ... it is a caring environment that takes feelings way too far. People are quite gossipy and can be down right cruel in the rumors they spread. Buyer beware - Cisco will do "backdoor" reference checks on you!! Be prepared to work extremely hard with little career growth ... career movement is extremely limited. It's not the norm to be allowed to move across functions or departments.

      * Great name recognition on your resume * Typically smart and competent coworkers * Wide market deployment for Cisco hardware, good exposure to customers * Stable company * Attention to good development practices like code review, unit test, etc. * Good benefits

      Cons

      * Big company means a lot of momentum, so change happens slowly * Support and maintenance for existing/legacy software can be frustrating * Some managers have no personal lives and expect you to behave similarly, often with the expectation of constant availability by email and working on weekends * Too much process slows down the pace of development
