Pros

Financially stable company, very smart and hardworking people, paycheck every two weeks, good benefits, some exposure to the latest technology depending on which unit you are. Good place to build experience

Cons

No innovation or excitement, too many project managers, bean counters. Lots if infighting, political struggles. Too much drama just to do an Execution Commit. Your ideas will or will not be listened to based on what your title is, not based on what they are. There is very little advancement opportunity. Employees who started at early 90s are too cocky have the grandiosity complex. Cisco was at the right place at the right time but now times of high flying stock is over. For the last 8 years, there is no meaningful raise, bonuses are going down. Hard to attract new talent. Engineers who are doing the actual work are not respected or appreciated properly. Management thinks, R&D, oh someone will do that, if not we'll have it done in India or China, I'd rather increase my visibility under the label or cross collaboration and look out for my few trusted tech leads. I know every department is different but I feel overall Cisco is on the fast track of becoming another big fat boring company like IBM.

Pros

telecommunications interest, lots of opportuniities, big company so lots of business units if you dont fit well in just one..communication from top is transparent. work place is well managed. there is respect for work, though it could be better. future looks good as worlds dependency on internet grows.

Cons

not great salary, stocks are stuck for long. one or other excuse for cutting bonus, raises etc. there is no guaranteed annual raise, cisco is always trying to cut corners so they dont have to pay well to the rank and file. so compensation wise, its just average.

Pros

Cisco has great compensation. I second what others say about how in Cisco, there are always opportunities for you to prove yourself. There is always enough work for you if you want to try new projects and and work harder, in order to get your name out and move move upwards. Another major plus is the lower management. They tend to hire people from within the current ranks, and therefore they hire people who have gone through the motions and know what its like to be a lower level employee. Compensation is also good, including bonuses and monetary rewards. yeah.

Cons

One thing that always makes me annoyed by cisco is the cubicles that are pale-puke green and sick-of-my-life grey. This seems to also be the theme with the exterior of the buildings. Also lining the walls of the interior of the buildings are really old pictures to -i guess- spice things up visually, but they are faded out now so are kind of depressing to look at. sometimes I find myself just not wanting to be inside those buildings, so work from home. Honestly, all they have to do is every once in a blue moon add a new picture to the wall, and it would make a world of difference. I saw the other day they were painting one of the walls orange. That made a HUGE difference in that area.
