      Pros

      Im not sure what the best reason to work for citi is. It used to be a respected name in banking but that is not the case anymore. I would stay away for now and hope they can dig out of the hole they are in.

      Cons

      It used to be a good name but current market conditions have changed. I originally felt that there was plenty of room for advancement but they seem to hire senior management from outside and are very reluctant to promote from within.Senior management has been telling us we were well capitalized for over a year however we continue to need bailout money.

      Career opportunities but stressful environment

      Pros

      State of the art, global organization with boatloads of career opportunities throughout the corporate world and the operating units. Hard work is rewarded but given the size of the organization things can get very complicated. Top management is very clique-like and decisions get made without everyone getting an opportunity to contribute to the possibilities.

      Cons

      Firedrills on a regular basis, especially when things aren't going well. Bonuses somewhat arbitrary and at the discretion of your manager. Long hours are expected if you want to do well and although they talk work life balance it is mostly talk. Health benefits are costly and getting more costly every year.

      Pros

      Citi Global Markets Is/was a leading player in all fixed income products. The variety of products and the complexity of theproducts provide opportunities for intellectual and career growth. If you are in a front-line area such as trading, sales or analytical support there is abundant talent and opportunity. The departmental management of the key areas is good.

      Cons

      Citi Global Markets is facing dire business conditions and has a hangover of bad decisions leading up to the creidt crisis. Their pay structure is likely to be revamped down severely due to the government involvement. IF you have a short time horizon and find an opportunity for learning a new product then this might be a good place. If you are looking for long-term career opportunity it looks like a risky proposition.
