Pros

Not sure if its a good thing, but they offer permanent contract.

Cons

Cognizant assumed the Google Maps project from CPL and Manpower (another vendors). Basically they took ‘hell’ and they are managing to make it worse - yes, it is still getting worse, in a weekly basis. As soon as they assumed, they did some meetings promising a lot of good changes, speaking a lot of awesome things about them. It turned out they were not good guys at all. First thing they did was to cut out the food provided, decrease the amount of snacks. After that, they implemented their system, which is buggy and useless. They know its buggy but they said they won’t fix it and we have to get used to it. Now, they are already cracking the whip, pushing us to work harder and harder. Its now harder to get holidays approved, no paid sick days, no pension scheme, no benefits, nothing. Last, but not least, in the next months they will ‘review’ the bonus system, in other words, either cut it or decrease it.

Pros

It's difficult to think of one.

Cons

After being absorbed by Cognizant, we were assured that no one would be at risk of losing their jobs and that, if necessary, they would find us other positions within the company. However, during my time there, employees were laid off in waves. If you want to feel like just a number on a spreadsheet rather than a valued individual, this is the place for you. I was among those laid off, and shortly after, I received an email from Cognizant stating they had found my information on a job board and thought I would be a good fit for their company. This demonstrated just how disorganized and, at times, heartless the company truly is. Some of their policies were also quite unreasonable, such as requiring 48-hour notice before calling in sick if you didn’t want your absence counted against you. The hiring process was equally nightmarish, feeling more like applying for a government position than a corporate job. Many of my coworkers had their verification documents repeatedly rejected for who knows what reason. It’s worth noting again that we had been absorbed by Cognizant and were not new hires. I have worked for questionable companies in the past, but Cognizant stands out as the worst place I’ve ever been employed. It's perplexing that they've received awards for being a great workplace when, during my time there, we were treated like nothing more than sheep.

Pros

They won't bother you as long as you are billing

Cons

No effort towards finding a new position. Pointless overly complex technical interviews by Cognizant staff for new assignments. I had one guy ask me how the keys to a hash map are stored internally. Seriously? This was a Cognizant guy screening me for a position with a new client. The hiring managers act like they are doing you a favor by interviewing you. And their systems for tracking leads are typical of the rest of Cognizant's systems; they are borderline usable. It felt like they were written by a first year comp sci major doing an internship at Compuserve or something. It was actually easier to find a new gig using LinkedIn. The experience was much more efficient and user friendly. More on their internal systems: they are horrible. If I was ever asked to teach a workshop in bad system design all I would have to do is use Cognizant's internal systems as examples. They are so bad it would almost be comical if your livelihood didn't depend on them. The experience got much worse after Ravi was hired as CEO and turned the company into a clone of Infosys. Only consider working here if you are a recent graduate from Bangalore Tech or something
