Pros

I have a manager who supports me a great deal and I enjoy what I do for the most part. Tuition reimbursement is great and so is the free satellite service. Our insurance premiums are decent too compared to market place. There is room to grow if you are willing to relocate.

Cons

Dish's big push to change the culture is not making an impact in El Paso to the degree I would prefer to see it. We still have a lot of employees who do not want to make effort to change our environment. They criticize attempts without offering input. We have to work on our attitudes with one another if we want to create a pleasant work environment. Additionally, I still do not agree with forcing salaried employees to work specidic number of hours to help HPU. Most salaried employees can successfully manage their responsibility within 40 hours and to ask them to stay longer will take time away from their family and personal life. This is conflictive as we tell employees we want to change the culture and then question them when they don't hit 45 worked hours. If we want to take our full lunch then we have to remain there 50 hours.

Pros

Co-workers are great Pay is ok if you are just starting out Equipment is fine, They have really started to upgrade Costumers are actually what I feared most but came to enjoy. You meet lots of people from all walks of life

Cons

I have been around. Was a sergeant in the military, Owned my own business, worked for Coca-Cola...I have never seen anything like this. The world is moving forward with metrics. Dish has embraced this and rightly so....BUT they have NO IDEA how to manage it. They put so much pressure on FSMs and OMs (You run of the mill middle management) that if they are at all bad at their job it trickles down fast. I have had my job threatened 3 times and I've been there for two months. I've NEVER been fired in my life! I am sure they will get to a balance but for now stay away. They remind me of a Sports team like the Mets....Ya they have good ideas on how to use metrics but they have no idea how to apply them to the employees. So with this lack of knowledge from the top down I have seen 7 people quit get fired or laid off out of 22 people in my office. In case your doing the math that's a 32% turn over in two months. Trust me they have NO CLUE what they are doing at the moment. Stay away. 5 other employees (along with myself) Have expressed to me their intention to leave 3 of which are in the process of interviews with other companies...So in 3 months this could be a 45% turnover or more. I just sold my business and wanted to get back into the work force...WOW did I ever make a mistake. I forgot about the benefits. I would call them a joke but its NOT funny. Thank god my wife has good insurance. Comcast Charter AT&T (Direct TV) and Frontier are the other content providers in my area, All have much greater plans for benefits. And when I say much greater I mean the difference between a 1997 Honda with 274k miles and Air Force One.

Pros

provides almost free dish service to employees . freebies when channel partners serve free lunch or hand out free goodies every now and then. Good cafeteria but you are not encouraged to sit there during mandatory work hours . HR will shoo you off if they see you congregating anywhere .

Cons

Forget about Work life balance . Be prepared for drone culture with management at all levels breathing down your neck . HR is the worst example of how HR needs to be. Siege mentality . Benefits and pay are well below par with industry average . over dependence on Contractors and high turnover
