Pros

DISH seems to be changing with the times better than the competition. As many people move to streaming services like Netflix, DISH is somewhat more prepared to compete than Direct or the cable companies. Easy job to get. Practically free TV for all employees.

Cons

It's a tough job and depending on your location, the pay can be pretty terrible. Certain locations have higher pay, and we're told it's due to a higher cost of living, but there are other locations with lower cost of living but still receive higher pay which is really unfair. There are long hours and excessive mandatory overtime. Techs are working five 12-hour days instead of the four 10-hour days we were told when we were hired. Well over a month ago we were told that there would temporarily be mandatory overtime, with many people having to work both Saturday and Sunday, and it was OK at first because thought it was only for a short period of time. We have expressed our displeasure to management, but the response is basically "Tough luck, be glad you have a job." It's incredibly hard to advance or get promoted. They have changed the already difficult criteria several times and you basically have to be perfect for 90 days in order to be promoted. It is especially difficult because your some of your jobs are inspected and you can fail for using the wrong colored cable clips and having a stinger on a connection that is too long. Techs are continually have been getting increased responsibilities and workload without an increase in pay. There are more jobs to do in a day and throughout the week, so at times we've had problems getting sufficient supplies from the warehouse. Also we're now required to sell Dish Smart Home services, which are overpriced accessories like wall-mounts, screen cleaning kits (sell for $15, you can buy comparable kits online for less than $3), and TV/home theater system installation. For selling these services, there isn't a commission, but a point system which you can use on a proprietary website to purchase various goods. All the techs would prefer real money on a paycheck but management seems to believe that we are children who are appeased by arbitrary points.

Pros

3 days off to recover from the harassing management

Cons

constantly threaten you with termination instead of encouraging you and supporting. Impossible standards; any client can cause you to get fired if enough call in for stupid things like losing their remote, or their imagined problems. And managers are required to show up on your job unannounced and critique you work and order you to do the job differently, sounds reasonable ha. well, its not when they dont know the job, have never done it and lack minimum H.R. skills. any time union tries to organize, they openly threaten employees with termination and even set examples: in a word AWFUL

Pros

For anyone reading this, please keep in mind that negative reviews can come from call center employees that may deal with angry customers – and that would be tough for anyone to deal with! Of the 34k employees a lot of them are call center representatives as DISH keeps many of their call centers IN THE USA! As for other areas of the business outside the call center, there are many opportunities for advancement and there are always things to do. Additional responsibilities are given to those that want it and ASK FOR IT and not just because you have been there a long time or you think you deserve it. Your management will make a big difference into how you perceive the company and I am very happy with my management. There is a lot of freedom to provide suggestions and improvements to business processes, along with specialized skills training if desired. .

Cons

Work life balance can be tough, you are on email or via contact on the phone all the time which is why PDO time means so much to me. Weeks are easily 45-55 hours in the office, and that doesn’t include the time you are answering emails or working more at home. So when I have a PDO I want to be able to disconnect as much as possible so the cons to me are: PDO time does not roll over and PDO time does not increase much for tenured employees (2 weeks to start, 3 weeks at five years, no other changes) Yearly merit increases are a little weak at times No work from home (WFH) policy if you needed to stay home for a repair/DISH install or on severe snowdays Office equipment is a bit dated (buy your own chair if you want a comfy one)
