Pros

Decent work/life balance Austin TX is a great place to live

Cons

No career opportunities No growth path - no development from within Constant reorganizations leave no room for manager/employee relationship and reduce prospects of professional development Too aggressive when negotiating wage/salaries Human capital is seen simply as a production input - "everybody is expandable, anyone can do the job"

Pros

Great place to get diverse experience before leaving to work for a company that treats their employees better.

Cons

Dell does a poor job managing talent. When times are tight they freeze promotions which only hurts the highest performers. Massive pay packages used to lure top executives at odds with Dell's stated position of maintaining median pay for all employees and kills morale. There also is way too much complexity. People hide behind process instead of taking ownership of issues.

Pros

Outpace the industry with compensation and are internal communication tools have matured rapidly. Pockets of the company appear to be in good shape, finding them is a challenge. If you are looking for a profitable, large company for your resume Dell fits the bill 100%.

Cons

Terrible mix of bringing in new management to intersect with old, reluctant to change process and bureaucracy. Reorganization trigger finger has to be the worst in class among Fortune 500 companies. Any hopes and dreams of moving from the bottom of an organization to the top were killed 10 years ago. Since everyone is using Dell as a launching pad - good idea and people leave too often.
