Pros

The people they hire. Large company so there are opportunities to get a breadth of experience without leaving the company. They invest in leadership programs for high potential employees. Austin, TX is a great place to live.

Cons

The company is so large now that it is hard to grow. Being public there is a constant struggle to manage to analyst expectations. You are sometimes forced to make dumb decisions to drive more revenue at the expense of profits and vice versa. Computers are a such a commodity business and it is hard to distinguish their products from their competitor's products. When things get tough they have to cut expenses and lay people off.

Pros

This is truly a meritocracy; the better you are, the more you're paid. This is refreshing, especially in the sales arena. Dell is also one of the top companies in its industry. It feels good working for a top company.

Cons

Dell can be very bureaucratic at times. It is sometimes difficult to make real change happen. This can cause customer angst because the sales team has to "tap dance" while we wait for our support teams to get it together. I wish that all Dell support teams spent time interfacing with customers to see how important they are in the overall purchasing process.

Benefit and the ability to move up. It can help you get a better job later in life too. Dell is a great place to start and then to move up and also to use as a good start on you resume. The first year are two may be ruff but if you have in there pay out could be great.

Cons

You have to start in the call center. You should know that you have to start from the floor and move up thought.
