      Large firm: Experiences Can Vary Greatly

      Exceptional knowledge sharing and collaboration practices strongly enabled by technology

      Cons

      Dysfunctional performance management tools and systems, very weak HR functions far more focused on managing risk to the partnership than providing employee support, inconsistency of management styles and practices and poorly communicated and exercised promotional practices. Many individuals rather than seeking creative answers to problems revert to a "robotic" E&Y language on the thought this may be a safe survival strategy. But no organization can thrive on this basis for the long term. Many outstanding and professional people will be encountered along with others whose professional standards are abysmal - who have been "protected" by another individual with some interest in that person remaining in that position.

      Great Career Choice

      Pros

      Ernst and Young has been a great place to begin a career. You are surrounded by bright and motivated personnel. There are numerous career opporntunities from audit to tax to transaction advisory. EY puts a large emphasis on flexibility and employees are able to take time off work when necessary to meet personal committments. The firm has also placed an emphasis on inclusivness which makes everyone feel an intergral part of the team and organization. The variety of clients from SEC to smaller, privately held clients gives employees a great variety of experiences.

      Cons

      This may go without saying but hours can be difficult during busy season. At times, recognition does not line up with effort.
