The worst !! - Catastrophe Analyst AIG Employee Review

AIG is making huge losses and you can't be sure when it again goes bankrupt. This is probably one of the worst organizations to have set up captive offices in India and exploit the gullible freshers and setback the career of experienced professionals. They might offer you 50% hike on joining but will ruin your next 3-4 years. The culture is totally rotten. No employee respects another employee and local management is neither technically sound nor managerially competent. The whole environment stinks of suspicion and backstabbing. You can only grow here by sycophancy and boot licking. Everybody just wants to bring in their own people without worrying about competence or fit. It is becoming more like a family owned business. Don't dare question your superiors, otherwise you will pay for it sooner or later. Below is team wise summary: Actuarial All play and no work makes great Actuaries! Just sit back, relax and clear you exams. A perfect place if you are lagging behind in your exam progress as there is no workflow in Bangalore office and you can study (or play in games room!) all day. Whatever little work is there will be just running existing macros. People have been made to leave because some managers want to bring in their own "friends". People with no actuarial experience have been put in charge as managers. Cat Account Modeling Few decent managers whose hands are tied as they have no real powers. A lot has already been written about GES on this forum. It has made life hell for the teams dealing with this horrible piece of software on which this company has already spent millions of dollars and will continue spending more. Attrition is very high as expected and people are opting for higher studies instead of continue working here. The job titles are fancy names for data cleaning and clerical work using basic excel. Portfolio One of the worst departments to work for with Highest attrition rate in CoE Bangalore. Managers have been appointed purely on favoritism by the top management and have no sense and technical skills. The manager hates employees from top tier institutes. One team has a stakeholder XyZ onsite and local manager RSt. XyZ does not want to use his team for any other purpose except run some scripts he creates regularly probably because he fears for his job as important/high impact work is outsourced to India. Nobody in the team knows whats happening even with their own projects. You might be working on an ongoing project but it might have been already finished and sent to clients!! The manager RSt (highly unethical and unprofessional)is really a piece of art. People are regularly lectured in public on what they should do and what they should not. Employees feel they are back to school in Class 5. Everything is micro-managed. People have been promoted entirely on closeness to RSt. Some have abruptly left their jobs to avoid mental harassment of working everyday in such an environment. Higher management is inconsiderate about attrition and it has been told arrogantly that people who are leaving will come back to us as they have nowhere else to go! R&D No direct manager present locally and people are having fun. People come in (or don't come in at all!!) and leave as they please and usually work from home half the time in week. GES Products team has no real workflow in Bangalore and people are involved in lot of politics within their own team. Moreover, they are involved in delivering a horrible product. floOD team has become acronym for people being hired from only a particular Indian state. Risk Engineering (RE) Highly unpredictable work environment. Excessive or no workflow with poor managers. They are being restructured regularly as management has no clear strategy. Some managers are a big show off and bluff regularly and make promises with employees which they can never fulfill. Not too much to learn really but might be lucky to get an overseas trip. Data Science Team AIG top brass follow their principles very religiously. No one except my friends is the motto. All same ex-investment firm guys. Don't expect fair interviews or treatment here if you have applied or planning to join. They already have a dedicated teams in London and US and need resources for petty works like data cleaning and executing scripts. HR/Talent Acquisition Very limited powers and almost irrelevant with so much politics going around. Moreover the AIG culture has very effect on everyone. The HR does not respond or processes any of your requests. Absolutely Hopeless with poor policies!! Not able to manage attrition within their own team. HR and talent team had bunch of people leaving them in last couple of months. Talent Acquisition does not give a clear picture of the role and responsibilities during the interview process. IT/Facilites Very poor IT support. Facilities suck. They haven't been able provide lunch to employees in 3 years. Reason assigned is that they can't find food vendors (yes we believe you!!) in Whitefield which is the IT Hub of Bangalore. Cabs are never on time and some managers are misusing this facility for personal benefits. Data Solutions Another unit totally screwed up by AIG with hell lot of politics. Top management has been fired and replaced but the game continues. Finance Center/Genpact office ORR Genpact has messed up already poor AIG culture. Seen high attrition recently. Avoid if possible.
