Pros

Very good pay for the first 2 years with the cash bonus. Stock is okay but the lousy base pay is disappointing. I work with smart, dedicated coworkers who appreciate my skills, knowledge, and experience prior to joining AWS. Work culture does support good work life balance compared with start up hustle.

Cons

Senior leadership just sound and behave like absolute amateurs. Their words do not align with their deeds. Leadership principles are for thee and not me. RTO decisions and communication have been been opaque and lacking in any data. Remote work is real and the technology exists to make collaboration even better than being in an old fashioned office. I think Amazon is going through their Steve Ballmer period. Long term thinking, innovation, honest discussion are all second class priorities compared with preserving and maintaining existing revenue and markets.

Pros

Ambitious projects if you're in the right team. Typically great team-mates. Don't believe the memes, the ppl are not back stabbing jerks but are overall genuinely nice. Not constrained by budgets when building cool things. Tools while sometimes clunky are powerful.

Cons

Schizophrenic lack of focus, entire teams get split, merged and upended multiple times a quarter. Some product managers are disconnected from reality. It didn't use to be the case, the PM-Ts were previously top notch. You're pushed to vibe code everything. Established products with loyal customers are getting neglected. Newer VP level leaders don't seem to know what they are doing. Veteran OG VP level leaders are either leaving in droves or seem stressed or checked out.
