Full of favoritism. It's not at all easy to work under the old mentality leadership. At least provide basic training on the product, process and business rather than showing high expectation from the first day. And most importantly, don't compare with your former employee who had spent only 2 years and has already left. Everyone has specific set of skills and knowledge and you should know how to hire, polish and respect. There is no open door for the discussions and ideas. And never judge on one's personal lifestyle. If someone is a smoker, manager doesn't have any rights to comment. Focus on smart works rather than the manual works with too much complexity.
