Pros

- Excellent 401(k) match - 40 hour/week baseline - Competitive health benefits - Stable workplace if you want to just show up to work and meet expectations for 40 years and earn a pretty good salary - Opportunities to seek out paid overtime if you desire higher compensation - You help build a magnificent engineering wonder

Cons

- Rampant age discrimination against young employees - Compensation and promotions are tenure-based not achievement/skill-based - Union mentalities harm workplace culture - Regular overtime required for all roles related to manufacturing - Senior management is incompetent beyond comprehension - You may be asked to commit unethical acts - Cares more about how many hours you're in your chair than how productive you are - Extreme bureaucracy - Novel ideas are shunned - Senior individual contributors no longer have cutting edge skill sets but are still paid the highest salaries and do not learn new things - "Alternative facts" culture; facts don't matter - the loudest person wins the argument - It's nearly impossible to fire anyone, especially in union segments, even if they consistently fail to meet expectations

Pros

Fantastic benefits and work-life balance. 401k match is unmatched!

Cons

Easy to get pigeon-holed into a role. Try exploring ways to stay pro-active and do different things

Pros

Easy going, nice benefits, free further education (masters/PhD). Great for an engineer starting out who needs to dip their feet in the pool of engineering for a few years and to get a great 401(k) match at the start of your career (compounding growth). Great for late stage career due to the benefits and solid enough pay in a low cost of living area

Cons

pay-scale lagging, no emphasis on learning new things, no punishment for people who are bad at their job. After working for 4 years, I feel like I should have jumped ship after 2. I haven't been given meaningful work that really challenges me in a while. Now I feel pigeonholed into staying because I have enough years of experience that I really should be considered senior, but I haven't been given work that reflects what I senior engineer should be capable of. Now I'm trying to jump ship before it's really too late. If I stay here another 2 years I think I will be genuinely unemployable and will have to stay at this company forever.
