Pros
Cemex is a leader in the aggregate industry. It is a huge conglomerate, so during good economic times, there are opportunities for advancement. They also match $1.50 for each $1.00 that employees contribute to 401k's (up to 4% of their paycheck). My supervisor was fair in regards to family issues and maintaining balance.
Cons
My direct manager was very secretive about strategies and company direction, although I'm not sure whether that was because of his lack of knowledge or his refusal to inform those that he supervised. Also, because of the size of the company, they are willing to hold prices steady during down economic times (or even raise them as they recently did). This makes it very difficult for salespeople to prosper. The company would rather save their material for later profits than lower the price to add sales and save jobs. Customers are well aware of the situation and often wonder aloud what the company strategy could possibly be. There is a general lack of camraderie and a sense of distrust within the regional offices, partially due to competitiveness and secrecy. The company has recently laid off over 1000 employees across the country due to strategical decisions during this economic downturn.
