Pros

I worked at Capital One, and my experience was nothing short of frustrating and disheartening. The company has a cliquey culture where, if you're not white, English, and middle class, you’re essentially excluded. It was clear that diversity was just a buzzword, not something they genuinely value. The management, especially my direct manager, was shockingly incompetent. There was zero constructive feedback, and I was constantly made to feel judged in a toxic, fear-based environment. This made focusing on my actual work nearly impossible as I was always on edge, unsure if I would be the next target of their unreasonable criticism. On top of that, the company's processes are frustratingly useless and overly complicated, adding unnecessary stress to an already toxic workplace. It felt like nothing I did mattered because of how poorly everything was structured. Overall, if you’re not white, middle-class, and English, I’d strongly advise you to stay away from Capital One. You’ll likely find yourself in a hostile work environment where you're constantly excluded and judged, rather than supported.

Cons

Incompetent managers and cliquey environment

Pros

Note- last year there was 2018, would not allow that option. Employee engagement always high priority.

Cons

Note- last year there was 2018, would not allow that option. Highly focused on sales vs service.

Pros

Some of the smartest individuals in their fields. The focus is always “forward” and the company is willing to adopt new tech to stay ahead for the purposes of the company’s (key word there) benefit. Great PTO and benefits.

Cons

The company’s drive to keep itself moving forward has caused it to regress in other aspects. As a leading tech company first, and leading bank second, it’s embarrassing what their stance is on hybrid and remote work. The company can easily accommodate remote options for their employees not near main offices, but chooses not to. I am relocating to a major city with no major CapOne presence and their response was “too bad, either fly up weekly or you’ll be terminated for not meeting the hybrid requirements”. It’s embarrassing because most of my week is remote anyways. I wonder how many current and past employees have been impacted, and I’m worried about how much talent they’ll be pushing away in the coming years.
