Pros

IT developers, engineers, architects and PMs are great; hardworking, competent, collaborative. I liked my manager, my managing director and my colleagues.

Cons

They pay as if it’s a domestic bank instead of a 24/7 global operation. First, you start the day working on APAC, EMEA, LATAM and NAM task progression. Next, the regulatory, compliance and risk management project milestones are equally important along with the functional requirements unique to the project. In parallel, you’re expected to deliver the project tollgate milestones along with the sponsored ones thusly for every project assigned there’s a second one to implement alongside it. An added pressure exists if you’re project is regulatory and compliance in nature and at times you report to 3 PMOs. $110K was my starting salary despite a masters degree, 15 years experience and several certifications and years on the job as a contractor. Every year I stayed made me feel like a bigger chump and there’s no way to close the gap unless I jumped 2-3 classes.

Pros

Hybrid schedule, supportive managers, opportunities

Cons

Once you’re in, comp basically plateaus. Layoffs are happening across the board, which tends to be the full-time culture of citi. The vibe is very much “run lean” until something actually breaks, and only then consider adding headcount. You have to be intentional about protecting your work-life balance, because the implicit expectation is that you’re always on—24/7, 365—without the support of a properly staffed team.
