Good compensation - Building Maintenance Costco Wholesale Employee Review

Pros

The pay and benefits are second to none in the industry. I work Monday to Friday and my current position is in building maintenance. This is janitorial work and some fixing stuff and painting as well as helping other departments as needed. I have the opportunity to apply for promotion or other departments if I wish. I Currently earn over 20 dollars an hour plus 2 bonuses of about $3000 each paid every June and December. We also get a turkey at Christmas. We do not pay into our benefits and they are very generous. We also get a fairly good pension and the company matches RRSP contributions to a certain number.

Cons

For most employees there are a lot of evenings and weekend work. Very poor for family life. There is some favoritism but that is not unusual for any workplace I think.

Pros

Very affordable high quality health insurance benefits even for PT employees. Great for working parents who split up child care and need coverage. The key to succeeding at Costco is to work hard, have a good attitude and be nice to people. It's hard work and fasted paced, you have to be down for that to succeed.

Cons

At this warehouse you are required to work 5 days per week, even if you are PT at 24 or so hours. This means lots of 4-5 hour shifts rather than fewer 8 hour shifts which is tough for those who commute a long distance to work or have to cover day care.
