Good money but no room for serious advancement... - VAR Sales Associate Dell Technologies Employee Review

Pros

Dell pays well for the work that you do. Teamwork driven (if you are in a team division) and bonuses can be very lucrative if you over achieve your quota. However, be aware of the "Dell payback". If you are in a division where they pay you on a draw (in advance) and you do not hit your quota, you will have to pay dell back a portion of the money they gave you for the month, this amount can vary. If you are interviewing, ask about this and make sure you CLEARLY understand it.

Cons

In sales, they are extremely quota driven and nothing else matters but hitting the number. Internal promotions are nothing more than lateral moves where you do the same job with different people in another cubical, with a different title, VAR, SMB, 08,05, etc.. If you come into sales, you are therefore forever stuck in sales, regardless of your degree (BA, BS, MBA, ETC.) or skills. If you love sales and never want to do anything else but sales, then go for it. Dell is the perfect place for you :).

Pros

The people are the best part of this job. I have met so many amazing people in this role. Even some I would consider life long friends. I think the experience gained from this job has also been useful for any sales role you may need for any future endeavors in sales or the tech industry.

Cons

Upper management has made many changes to the compensation and the metrics which has for sure effected employee satisfaction. Turnover rate is insane as there’s a new hire class literally every month. Dell itself is running out of room and they are not making any new teams for the new hire classes which has left more tenured reps in a vulnerable position.
