Pros
While I worked at Goldman Sachs in Melbourne, the people there were smart, ambitious and very hard-working. There was a great culture: my colleagues were the salt of the earth. At the time, I would have recommended this job to anyone willing to learn and work hard. I've seen plenty of additional opportunities given to those who were willing to spend a few years in overseas offices. The people here are very human, and I made many lasting friendships despite the stressful work environment. There are many stories of employees going through personal hardship (sickness, or sickness in the family), and the entire company immediately dropping the whole "rat race" mentality, and supports the employee in their time of need.
Cons
The company works its people very hard: expect long hours and late nights. I would recommend working here just long enough to learn everything you need to learn and to include the prestige on your c.v. Upper management has a "shark tank" mentality, pitting colleagues against each other to compete for a single role. From an Australian perspective, it's quite difficult to advance your career within the company without doing long stints of overseas work. The Australian office was shrunk substantially: don't expect a stellar career if you stay in Melbourne or Sydney.
