Pros

Weekly Paycheck. Holiday Pay and Holiday OT Pay. You get paid a straight 8 hours for the holiday as long as you work the day before, day or or day after a Holiday. Plus Holiday OT if you work the day of the holiday between 12am and 11:59pm, two days PTO and Paid Vacations. 1 vacation after first year, 2 after 3 and 3 after 7, 4 after 14. if you get to 5 and 6 vacations you have been there way too long. Standard benefits and ok dental. 401k option.

Cons

Unionized and the Union is in the pockets of Kroger. The Union sucks your paycheck dry to the point you could make $20 a hour and go flip burgers for $13 and still break even because you are not getting a huge chunk of your paycheck yanked away by the union that does nothing but harass you to come to events for a small discount that is like paying a place $10 to get $10 off. The Union drags its heals when it comes to helping you, and the reps are always on vacation or out of town. They will also hire incompetent managers and hire people who have a felony, work them up to the 30 day probation of the union and fire them for having the felony. All that time the person who was hoping to get a good job and start over is milked by the union and then fired. Seen it happen to people who were just barely within the limit where the felony can't be used against them. Lost a few good workers that way. I can understand if it was cash related, but they fired a guy who worked good but got in a fight with their brother and got the charge 3 years prior. They would rather hire new people then keep good people because new people cost them less. Plus once someone retired, the hours that person got would vanish and they would not hire anyone to replace that person.

Pros

Great benefits at a reasonable cost. First year you get 2 weeks vacation, 5 PTO days, and 5 Health and Wellness days. Loved the hourly (union) people I worked with at various locations. They become your second family

Cons

- Crazy schedule. You will be either scheduled to work a 7-5, 12-10, or a 9-7 depending on the location. And even when the schedule is posted for the period it typically changes week to week, so do not bother making plans. And get ready for 5-10 closes in a row then opening the next day. -9 times out of 10 you never get to use your earned time off due to circumstances at the store you are assigned to. And yes, you will lose them they do not accrue. -If you are lucky enough to be assigned at a store with a strong store manager then things are different, but if not, get ready to blamed for every failure of the store, even when the labor model continues to be cut to the point that you are lucky if you have 2 people in a department and someone from corporate walks in and wants to know why the departments are not set. -Endless micro-managing. Your day is mapped out what you should be doing verses what you know you should be doing. It is check the box that that the "task" is completed when in fact there is no one to complete it, except you. Ergo that is why many just "fudge" it.
