Pros

Lowe's provided a casual work environment, and relationships between workers were comfortable and friendly. Although I worked in the Home Decor and Paint department, I was free to help customers find any area of the store. I enjoyed the fact that I could walk around and get into a number of projects throughout the day, helping where I was needed. The work day passed quickly, and I was never bored. Although Lowe's is a home improvement warehouse and much of the work there can be a little dirty, my experience showed that the company puts a high value on cleanliness and safety.

Cons

Initial training leaves new employees very uneducated during their first few weeks of employment. Lowe's relies on computer-based training programs that do little to actually train a new employee in the skills that you'll need to serve customers. The computer-based training covers Special Order Sales, as well as customer service and situational problem-solving. For me, the computer-based training was a downside to working at Lowe's. I spent several days in this sort of training, and I feel that it would have been more appropriate for me to complete Special Order Sales under the guidance and supervision of a manager. Although the computer-based training provides a safe, error-free method of training that ensures no order errors, it presents limited scenarios and does little to actually prepare a new employee. This created frustration for me, because once I completed the computer-based training, I was largely left to myself on the floor. I was not prepared well, in my opinion.

Pros

Some amazing customers and coworkers. Tasks and systems were easy to learn. Sometimes you get lucky and have amazing ASMs and SMs. It's easy to get a good survey when you treat customers like friends, be honest about what you do and don't know, and work to learn what you don't. That goes a long way with customers. I personally truly loved my job and loved spending as much time as I could at work.

Cons

Once you are on someones S*** List they will make it possible to get rid of you. Management only follows policy when it benefits them. Some people get promoted when they have no business working in retail as a leader. The A/C in the store I worked in was always broken during the summer, which made it miserable to work. Some customers are entitled due to they way management will kiss their butts to keep from losing a sale or getting a bad review. Management will make a paper trail to write you up if you mess up or are struggling instead of helping you better yourself. Management does not care about employees' work-life balance. Management does not care if their employees are struggling with personal issues like car troubles, health issues, financial issues, etc. Management will get rid of great employees but keep people who don't pull their weight. Once I hit burnout, instead of helping me, I was punished by my managers. In turn making me hate a job I truly loved.
