Morgan Stanley

Is this your company?

There's a reason people tend to stay... - Vice President Morgan Stanley Employee Review

Pros

Diverse work. If you have the right skills and the right management over you, you can get the space to go out and do some pioneering, to figure out what the firm needs and go deliver it. Great quote from former president Bob Scott: If you can't respect your manager, don't stick it out but find yourself a better place to work. Not everyone is that open and level headed but generally there are quite a few real people in the firm.

Cons

It's less fun if you get stuck with a micro-manager or arrogant know-nothing over you. In TK, work-life balance... with MUFG coming in things are bound to get more stuffy and rigid Japanese style. Bad quote from former president Zoe Cruz: Really, our business model is much better than a decade ago, because we can lay off most of our risk in the market and so increase leverage and profits (...just a couple of years before the global credit crunch almost killed the over-leveraged firm).

Pros

Very good co-workers, Great technology stack. Lot of new technologies and integration with current work.

Cons

They dont even give you a MS cup. They ask you to buy it for 5$. So cheap! Management big on "Giving back", Immediate managers do not like it and are not supportive. Lay off employees twice a year to show profits. Only worried about shareholders and clients. Don't know the criteria for lay-off. So, you are always worried if it is your turn. They boast about mental health and wellness. No good, when they layoff employees like this. HR = Horrible Resources. When you are laid off, they shoo you away as if you are a fly. You feel miserable. They themselves say - "We are better than Facebook or Oracle. We dont fire you at 6 AM over email." Gosh! What a comparison!
