Pros

This is a big company with an international footprint. It's a great way to learn about different cultures and working styles. Pretty good remuneration packages, especially if you come from outside the organisation. In the UK the have true flexible working, as long as you get the work done, you can be where you want, although this dors depend on the manager and is not the same across the group.

Cons

If you work in the Global arm in the HQ you really need good Spanish. While they have flexible working, the flipside is that this often means that you are expected to be connected at all times; bear in mind that this is a global company with businesses around the world and geographic time differences are not taken into consideration so you're expected to 'be there' whenever needed. This mainly applies in global roles. However this 'always on' expectation leads to totally unreasonable demands: receiving an email at 10.30pm demanding that you have something (totally new) done and sent to them by 6.00 am are not out of the ordinary. There are constant changes in direction in vision and strategy at a global level with transformation and change programmes rolling round every 2-4 years. On the tactical side this means there is no consistency of message around what you're actually supposed to do with focus changing (literally) from one day to the next. The whole organisation lacks genuine direction or sense of purpose, with a huge amount of cynicism. Nepotism is rife in the HQ leading to a large number of very over-paid well connected 'untouchable' people who have to be handled with kid gloves, regardless of ability. If you come in from external you can expect a really good salary, if you are promoted internally your salary will not match the external market, by some thousands of pounds. Beware, you will get major change notifications (like the appointment of new CEOs or the closure of whole businesses) in the newspapers rather than from any internal team, even if you work in the business that's getting the new CEO/closed down. While there is a business in the UK that is undergoing some serious changes and headcount reductions, the Global operations in the UK are being drastically scaled back as well. Round after round of redundancies that have been ongoing in Global roles (in the UK and in Spain) for a good couple of years. There is the same work shared around less and less people so the work/life balance only gets worse. There's no chance of promotion internally in the UK's Global area and barely any in the Spanish HQ. All in all, it's an exhausting and demoralising place to be.
