Pros

• Lack of Clear Strategy: There appears to be no coherent strategy, leading to uncertainty and confusion. • Questionable Leadership Decisions: Leadership acquired new companies in Australia, over-hired, and then conducted random massive layoffs. • Confusing Organizational Structure: The flat organizational structure at Thoughtworks is difficult to navigate, especially for new hires. • Unclear Goals and Expectations: There are multiple platforms for career and grade expectations, but none provide clear guidance. • Dual Pressures: Developers at Thoughtworks are expected to satisfy both management and customers, essentially working for two bosses without receiving adequate appreciation. • Competitive Project Allocation: Employees must compete to get assigned to projects. Some projects require going through a stressful hiring and onboarding process each time. • Inadequate Compensation: Thoughtworks doesn’t pay well, and considering the dual pressures and competitive environment, the stress and trouble make it not worth the effort.

Cons

• Discontinued Perks: The company has stopped offering the perks that were initially promised to new employees, such as development packages and company shares. • Eliminated Incentives: There are no longer any promotions, bonuses, or merit increases available. • Empty Values: The emphasis on social justice and other values now feels like empty rhetoric. • Massive Layoffs: Employees faced sudden, random layoffs with minimal severance packages. • Terminated Benefits: Health plans were abruptly terminated, leaving employees, particularly those with health conditions, in very difficult situations.
