Pros

Most of the people you work with are kind, not exceptionally smart, but nice.

Cons

There is a new culture of "young is better" coming through. Old timers are getting squeezed out along with all their institutional knowledge. Benefits are being cut, return to the office is in full effect, promotion freezes (unless you are in the C-Suite), budget cuts, the 401 (k) has been revamped, and health insurance rates have increased by 40% for employees for 2026. Additionally, a mass layoff occurred this week. All with an eye on the stock prices....the IPO will be the death of this company's employees. You will never move up, you will never get promoted. They mostly hire from outside for "key" positions. And when they don't know what to do, they reorganize and cut the workforce, and keep the same quotas. This is where your career comes to die...run away!

UL Solutions continues to cover a majority of healthcare expenses while offering multiple coverage options for employees to receive care. Additionally, we offer a generous 401k match, paid volunteer time off, tuition reimbursement and more. We have numerous avenues to hear employee feedback, through employee engagement surveys, CEO Briefings, team town halls and our anonymous ethics hotline. Pros

- The team is great. Both morning and night shift tend to interact well and joke. Both teams know the importance of time and place meaning they take work seriously but also have fun. - Manager of the department is really cool and is a team leader. Really cares for the team - Good job to gain experience

Cons

- Peak season is a drag. 72hr weeks for ~11 weeks really takes a toll, and upper management doesn't really do anything to help. - The pay isn't all that great compared to other engineers in the Bay Area. - Certification testing follows the procedures of the client and regulatory agencies. There isn't much room to express creative thought. Mundane work. - Regional Manager doesn't have the interest of the employees, only of the client. Regional would go to the meeting as a yes man to the client without consulting the engineering leads. - Ever since UL Solutions went public, it doesn't feel like a safety company. They care more about how much money they can make or save than about the safety of the consumer product.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your thoughts. We are happy to hear that you work in a positive team environment where you feel cared about and that you have been able to gain positive experience. We understand that some may encounter longer working hours, especially during peak periods tied to customer deadlines. Although these situations are time‑limited and part of real project demands, we recognize that extended hours can be challenging and are not something we want to become the norm. We are actively exploring ways to better balance workload expectations, provide clearer guidance around work hours, and ensure managers have the tools to support healthy work practices. We appreciate this feedback.
