Pros

The End of Year Profit Sharing Bonus

Cons

The sales dept within Uline harps on the fact that they “hire the best”. If this were the case, you would think they wouldn’t need to babysit you as if you were still in middle school. Selling as a sales rep at Uline is not what’s important. What is important are the constant over the top audits they do on a weekly basis. Forget the fact that you had great sales numbers this month. You didn’t have strong enough notes after your sales visit. You didn’t have strong enough “product suggestions” for the merchandising department. The sales rep position is a glorified customer service position that discounts items when the customer asks. If you are failing these audits, overall management, and the sales management will not talk to you about them face to face. They will hide behind their keyboards and sending scathing emails. Uline does not even trust you enough to correctly speak to customers. They installed software on your computer and phone, where management will be silently listening to your phone calls with customers, without you even knowing. Your job performance will not be judged on actually selling, it will be judged on the ridiculous “metrics” for each week, that quite frankly have zero correlation with actually selling. Management does not care about helping you develop. They will not want to join you for sales calls to help you sell, they will want to text you the morning of to surprise you that they’ll be joining you for the day, in hopes that they possibly catch you with a less than stellar day of sales calls. Upper management within the sales department in Pa/NY offer nothing to help you grow or advance in your career. They’re more focused on these audits, and digging through reports all day. There are zero leaders, or motivators at the top of the department and branch. If you plan on joining Uline, be prepared to feel pressured in your private beliefs. Because when the owner of the company, Liz, comes in for her yearly power trip visit, she’ll be sure to tell you who she wants you to vote for if you are working for her company. The time I spent at Uline got significantly worse as time went on. The micromanaging has hit new and more absurd heights with no end in sight. Strong sellers and good reps will continue to leave, and Uline will continue to lose good employees who are willing to work hard, just not be treated like a high schooler. But Uline doesn’t care, they look at it as it’s “your loss”. The statement “you are just a number” has never been more true after my experience at Uline. I think it is extremely important that dedicated sales professionals know exactly what they are getting into at Uline, before jumping back into a high school environment.
