Pros

Insurance is great. well stocked kitchen. You can make a lot of money in sales if you are good at it. The people are good, for the most part.

Cons

I worked in the Denver office. The drug culture is out of control, even reaching into management level. I have been in the office when someone came in stinking of marijuana. I have seen another rep come in from lunch with a white ring around his nose. If I had a 20-something son or daughter I wouldn't want them to work here simply because it's easy to get caught up in that culture. pill popping is not uncommon at all. I have had managers who were coked out during the day. There's one guy in particular who would be on adderall and just stare me down for no good reason. It got to be uncomfortable after a while, to the point where I no longer wanted to there anymore. Also, since Zillow bought Trulia, it stopped being any sort of fun in the Denver office. It used to be a really fun place to work. I used to look forward to going in because every day was a new adventure. Then, somewhere along the line, it just turned into straight up drudgery. Also, there is little to no room for advancement. It's a good place to cut your teeth but I wouldn't want to be there more than 2 years. that would be my maximum. it's changed for the worse, that's for sure and that's the consensus on the floor. One region, right now, is fomenting mutiny. It's just a matter of time before that situation blows up. The die-hards will stay because they're grandfathered in. I can see a mass exodus within the next 6 months happening.

I appreciate you taking the time to review your experience with us at Zillow Group. We do pride ourselves on providing a fantastic financial opportunity to our world class sales organization. I also agree there is great potential to maximize that opportunity if you are a skilled salesperson; typically, that is how it works. When it comes to recruiting great leadership, we consistently look internally and externally for great people. Several of our current sales leaders started as individual contributors with Zillow Group. The message we are sending is we have great career opportunities for folks joining our sales team in any role. Regarding your other comments about the Denver office, the feedback you provide is very serious and counter to what I observe with our Denver sales team. Personally, I believe in cultivating a safe, enjoyable, and productive work environment. Our Denver sales and leadership teams take great pride in doing the same. Your feedback certainly counters that philosophy. Please feel free to connect with me at stevec@zillowgroup.com to discuss your thoughts and best of luck with your future endeavors.. Pros

You can make good money here.

Cons

In sales, job can change often. For example: I was making good money and excelling because I am a relationship Sales person. Then they changed it to where you get the sale, and instead of being able to grow that account via that relationship you just broke into, you have to pass it to an account manager and go back to cold/robo calling. You "book" of business you recive to prospect from is a lottery. I received a book of prospects/accounts that most of the were low income, or senior living properties. They don't have a budget and have a line of renter on a waitlist. No way to convince them to spend money on advertising but you still have the same quota.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed perspective. We understand that frequent changes to roles, account ownership and business priorities can have a real impact on relationship-building and the day-to-day experience in sales. We’re glad to hear compensation was a positive part of your time at Zillow, and we appreciate you being candid about where the model and structure felt frustrating. Feedback like yours helps us better understand how these changes are experienced across teams as the business evolves.
