Pros

Zillow gets it. The management seems to put a lot of thought into what makes a great workplace and does everything they can to empower their employees to be successful and happy. One thing that always bothered me about previous employers was the lack of internal communication regarding company direction and decision making. I've never once felt like I was in the dark at Zillow, and if something wasn't immediately obvious I've always had my questions answered honestly. As an engineer I've always felt like I've had a clear goal and direction, and I've never had to spend time spinning my wheels wondering what I should be doing. Management works hard to unblock things if any hurdles do arise, as long as you're willing to admit when you're having trouble.

Cons

Zillow is a very team-oriented company, so if you're the type that loves personal glory and recognition, you might not do well. Achievements definitely get recognized, but arrogance is massively frowned upon. That's not really a con for most people, but it might be for some.

Thank you very much for the positive comments. We certainly put a lot of effort into communicating and making sure everyone knows the strategic direction of the company and how each team and their projects meet the important goals we look to achieve. At the end of the day, I want everyone to know why what they are working on is critical to the success of the company. Thank you as well for all your efforts and contributions. Zillow is a team sport and we believe the efforts of a strong team allows the best ideas and the best products to be realized. Of course there is always room for improvement, so as you see ways we could be better, please pass those on to your manager, team and me. Thanks again, - David Beitel CTO, Zillow Group

Pros

Very collaborative team, encouraging team members and managers. Great experience overall.

Cons

Because most people work remote, sometimes it can be hard to meet immediately to chat.

Pros

You can make good money here.

Cons

In sales, job can change often. For example: I was making good money and excelling because I am a relationship Sales person. Then they changed it to where you get the sale, and instead of being able to grow that account via that relationship you just broke into, you have to pass it to an account manager and go back to cold/robo calling. You "book" of business you recive to prospect from is a lottery. I received a book of prospects/accounts that most of the were low income, or senior living properties. They don't have a budget and have a line of renter on a waitlist. No way to convince them to spend money on advertising but you still have the same quota.

Thank you for sharing such a detailed perspective. We understand that frequent changes to roles, account ownership and business priorities can have a real impact on relationship-building and the day-to-day experience in sales. We’re glad to hear compensation was a positive part of your time at Zillow, and we appreciate you being candid about where the model and structure felt frustrating. Feedback like yours helps us better understand how these changes are experienced across teams as the business evolves.
