Pros

Work life balance, people are fun to work with and treated with respect. Good travel benifits, the CEO Dara and Senior VP Paul Brown are good leaders, most of the problems have to do with poor leadership at CTO and Product developement levels.

Cons

The pay and benifits are less than other companies in the area. Although mid managers seem to care about moral thier hands are typically tied and they aren't given the authority to lead. There's a lot of bureaucracy at Expedia and they go through senior managers every year or so, resulting in shifting priorities, reorgs, and low moral.

Pros

Expedia is a smaller company, giving you some opportunities to grow outside of your area. Rapid exodus of talent means opportunity for quick advancement if you can play the political game.

Cons

Upper management is incompetent. Political infighting and backstabbing on all levels (including individual contributor) that would make even Machiavelli uncomfortably nervous. Great talent is chronically unrecognized and treated poorly. Great managers are few and far between these days. Chronic "Emperor's New Clothes" syndrome. Moving from private office space to a building in downtown Bellevue with cubicles and ~$100/mo parking.

Pros

work life balance, travel benefits, convenient commute, flexible vacation planning

Cons

unclear career development, little to no growth/training, I've seen the company progress through many reorganizations and refactorings of ladder levels and reviews. This company still operates as Microsoft did 15 years ago. If you want a fast past career path with a clear promotional roadmap that is based on performance and measurable goals look elsewhere. Here the is a clear preference for more tenured employees. Your performance may be exceptional and they will pay you for it, but do not expect a title/managerial promotion.
