Not as good as the hype

Pros

FDM have an impressive list of Clients but thats about as good as it gets there.

Cons

Treated like cattle No one listens to your needs Forced in to training program that I didn't apply for You'll notice on LinkedIn that the duration of employment for most FDM Graduates is 2 years 3 months. The reason the employment doesn't go beyond this time is that once the training is complete, you will be shipped out and ignored. Getting in touch with an ever changing list of account managers makes getting answers to simple questions challenging. I guess the only positive is that they seem to be as concerned about looking after their sales team as they do the trainees they have out on site.

It's a lottery

Pros

Gives you opportunities to get some great experience down on your CV. Also two years job security.

Cons

Sales do not care about consultants, your career ambitions really don't factor into the placements your offered. You could come to FDM hoping to be a project manager and end up in a testing job if that's where the vacancies are, and you're not permitted to turn down roles/interviews. Many are sent to interviews with no job specification and limited understanding of what the role is. Pay is very low BUT will go up dramatically when two years are up. Very limited assistance with relocation.

Good - But there is a caveat

Pros

The training you get is good - you learn a lot The companies on their books are companies that would not usually hire graduates straight out of Uni If you get placed outside of London, the pay is decent, particularly in the 3rd Year

Cons

You have to be geographically flexible The training is unpaid and can last longer than the stated 16 weeks You have to commit for a 2 year minimum period I can live with the two cons above however. What I cannot live with is the lack of communication between the FDM Mounties placed onsite and the account managers. It has been really poor from the outset. They don't respond to emails and you hear about important things through the grapevine. Also, the client whose site you are placed on is also sometimes kept in the dark. It really needs to be sorted out and thus they will only get 2 starts from me
