Pros

Possible foot in the door if you are one of the lucky or special ones.

Cons

The training is mostly self taught Some of the trainers don't know one end of a spreadsheet from the other Some senior managers treat Mounties like children. One member of staff is renowned for sacking Mounties for no reason. Say one thing to your face, another behind your back. Communication between sales and Mounties is shocking. Job descriptions you are sent are vague. Sales staff are slow to give feedback post interview and don't tell you results of interviews unless pushed. Salary is not location adjusted. London is expensive. Fact. Will send you for interviews you are not qualified or trained for. Happy to kick you out if you slip up at all which for a people centric company is laughable.

Pros

A good opportunity to work in a bluechip company that may not otherwise have been accessible through grad programmes etc.

Cons

Excel training is a photocopy of Excel VBA for dummies! Unpaid training for x no of weeks (stream dependant) - which is costly especially in London. Salary (specifically for London cost of living) is derisory - no added benefits on top of this. Be prepared to move - don't care if you have responsibilities eg mortgage, rent agreement Highly inflexible and means they can be unreasonable. Sack people because they "haven't got enough placements" the week before Christmas.

Pros

The only reason I see as beneficial from working with FDM has been the chance to gain experience in financial (investment bank in my case) IT industry.

Cons

- Renumeration is less than the equivalent level (entry/graduate) roles for permanent employees at financial insitutions. - No real benefits other than a salary (no pension, bike2work, dental etc etc) - The training is not a very high standard (class environment is akin to being back at sixth form college unfortunately) - No objectives setting when on a placement, no apparaisal/review system. Left to your own devices unless you have any issues.
