Pros

You will lose weight and get fit. The work is hard, but the physical benefits and pay help offset the difficulty. Plus, there is room to grow in the company if you are dedicated enough.

Cons

Our hours kept fluctuating which made it difficult to figure out an average weekly salary. (However, the company was very timely about delivering their paychecks to employees.) I was promised to work five hour shifts, but as time went on that was reduced to three and I sometimes worked less than three hours a day. Once, I was asked to not come in because there was not enough work. Even the full-timers were getting their hours cut with some complaining about "two-hour lunches" meaning that their (unpaid) meal break was extended to two hours instead of the normal (and state-required) 30 minutes. The only time I was able to work five hour shifts was during the holiday rush in December.

Pros

WARNING: Ge ready for it, I try to cover everything i can remember in my 4 years here. Good Insurance health, dental, vision Laid back managers, generally won't fire people unless you steal or fight. Flexible hours, will accommodate if you need to come in a little later a certain day of the week. Macro-management; In general managers will not be on your butt 24/7. Management will buy pizzas or do barbecue cookouts after long periods of proven productivity quotas being met. Tuition reimbursement for package handlers is very good, if you don't mind the work or amounts you get usually ($1,500 per calendar year, but try to use it up during the Spring/Summer semesters as the deadline for the fall semester is before most schools submit final grades) I would recommend staying until you no longer need that program. IF you get promoted your amount for the program will increase but it comes with its own set of headaches (more on that in the Cons).

Cons

If you are promoted you will likely get stonewalled on Tuition reimbursement unless your major is business AND you have prior agreement from HR that they will approve it (which has a coin toss chance of happening). The more types of positions you have experience in the more (and more often) you will be asked to do things that are not your responsibility. If management is not your best buddy you can forget about meaningful promotions unless you are there 5+years(and even then it's a toss-up); consequently management plays favorites into promotional opportunities. One of my biggest pet-peeves is that management will reward lazy employees when they step it up, but will not notice active hard-working employees when they outperform on a daily basis. Furthermore on this note, managers will regularly give "QRP" (Quality Recognition Program) codes to employees they like, and deny them from ones they do not. Normally QRP is given to the current employee of the month, but in my experience lazy people (when they step up) and manager's pets (just for being buddy buddies) will get them on a weekly to bi-weekly basis. Management will say and even have it displayed throughout company property that "everyone in Fedex Ground started as a Package Handler" but the reality is that only everyone they don't like had to do that. My last 3 managers all started in either their current positions or one position just beneath, neither of which are entry level. This company will hire ANYBODY so be careful who you upset. I personally met someone with an attempted murder charge on his record as well as people with multiple jail time periods on their records. Loyalty is rewarded with lower starting wage in new position as you lack external experience.

Middle Management Issues not addressed

Pros

The company has a great mission and well-known brand, I was proud to work for it. Many people work their whole life there, especially people at the stations work very hard. Some nice things done, like holiday lunches served by executives.

Cons

Problems in middle management not resolved (blind eye turned). People slow down and work less and less the more they stay in the same company. Professionalism and accountability not always there and this problem is not addressed. Their annual management feedback process is a big sham and employees that provide actual feedback are then bullied by the managers.
